Matthew Ablitt

Matthew Ablitt is a UK-born, Australian-based artist whose figurative prints speak in the language of gesture, memory and unspoken emotion.

His practice is rooted in storytelling — creating pieces that invite the viewer to slow down, reflect, and discover their own meaning within the image.

Working primarily in traditional printmaking processes, Matthew produces layered, tactile works that balance structure with sensitivity. Each piece carries the mark of the hand — an intentional contrast to the fast pace of contemporary visual culture. His subject matter often centres on the human form, symbolic gesture and quiet narrative moments, allowing space for emotion rather than explanation.

With a background in both education and studio practice, Matthew brings patience, discipline and care to every edition produced.

In 2026, Matthew established Ablitt Editions, a dedicated gallery and print studio space now located within Butterfly Blooms Garden Centre in St Peters, Sydney. The space allows visitors to experience his work surrounded by plants, light and community — an environment that reflects the spirit of his practice.

Original prints are available to view and purchase in person at Ablitt Editions.

Matthew also offers botanical-themed printmaking workshops from his studio, inviting participants to explore traditional techniques inspired by nature in an intimate, hands-on setting.
